Diving Around Zadar
The water off Zadar is clear, warm from June to October and busy with things worth descending for: sunken ships from two world wars, drop-offs along the outer islands, and caves and swim-throughs in the shallower channels. Visibility often exceeds thirty metres in summer, which is why the schools here can run training as well as fun dives.
The operators are small, PADI or SSI affiliated, and work from the city, from Borik and from the islands opposite. Most run a beginner try-dive, a full certification course over three or four days, and guided dives for people who arrive already qualified with a logbook. Croatian rules protect certain wrecks, so some sites require a licensed guide from a registered centre rather than an independent descent. Water hovers around twenty four degrees in August and drops to the mid teens in winter, when the schools thin out.
