Stand up paddleboards, kayaks and electric hydrofoil boards. The eFoil is the unusual item, since most hire points along this shore carry paddle craft only.
What is an eFoil and do I need experience?
It is a board with a powered wing beneath it that lifts the hull clear of the water once moving. It handles nothing like a paddleboard, so it is closer to learning a new sport than hiring one, and instruction matters more than it does with a kayak.
Where exactly is the hire point?
On Borik beach, the resort bay about four kilometres north west of Zadar Old Town. It is reachable by city bus in roughly fifteen minutes, or on foot along the coastal path that follows the water most of the way.
Is the water around Borik suitable for beginners?
Usually yes. The islands of the archipelago break the open Adriatic swell, so the channel in front of the city stays flat on most summer mornings. Afternoons are more often choppy, so a first attempt is better made early.
When can I hire water sports gear in Zadar?
Through the summer season, and in settled weather. The bura wind off the Velebit shuts this trade down whenever it blows, so hire depends on conditions on the day rather than on a fixed calendar.
