Getting Around Zadar

Zadar Airport sits nine kilometres inland, the ferries leave from Gazenica, and the peninsula itself is pedestrian, crossed by the rowed barkajoli boats.

Arrivals split three ways. Zadar Airport at Zemunik is about nine kilometres south east of the centre and is a Ryanair base, so the flight map is wider than the city's size suggests; a shuttle bus meets flights and runs to the bus station and the Riva, taxis and transfers take twenty minutes, and the car rental desks are here rather than in town. Ferries use Gazenica, four kilometres south east, which took over from the old city quay and now handles the island services, the Ancona crossings and the cruise calls. The bus station on the eastern side of the centre carries the long-distance coaches, which remain the practical way to reach Split, Zagreb and Plitvice.
