Art and Craft Workshops
The craft trade in Zadar is small and worth seeking out precisely because it is small. Glass is the strongest thread, unsurprising in a city with one of Europe's larger Roman glass collections and a museum that keeps glassblowers working in the building; pieces made on site are sold at the door. Around it sit ceramics, prints and illustrations of the forum and the round church, and textile work that draws on Dalmatian embroidery patterns.
These are workshops rather than galleries, which means the person selling usually made the thing and will explain how. Prices sit above the souvenir shops and the difference is visible in the object. Most are tucked into the Old Town lanes rather than on the main streets, so they take a little finding, and several keep short or seasonal hours because the maker is also the shopkeeper.
