Clothes shopping here divides by geography. Kalelarga and the lanes off it hold the independent boutiques and Croatian labels, along with swimwear, linen and the summer clothing a coastal city sells all season. Stock is small and turnover is quick, so what you see is more or less what there is, and sizes run to the European scale.

The international chains are not on the peninsula. They sit in the shopping centres and retail parks on the mainland side, ten minutes out by bus or car, which is where the city itself shops for everyday clothes at everyday prices. For visitors the split is simple: the Old Town for something you will not find at home, the mainland centres for a replacement swimsuit or a jumper when the bura arrives. Sales run in January and again from July, when the summer stock clears.
